AMENIA - The Harlem Valley Expo, sponsored by the Harlem Valley Chamber of Commerce, will be held on April 13 at the Silo Ridge Country Club to celebrate and showcase the range and variety of businesses in eastern Dutchess County.

Vendors from the Harlem Valley community will have their booths set up early Sunday morning, where families can expect food, music, and even craft activities for children.

"We're very pleased to be able to organize this event for the business community and the residents in eastern Dutchess County," said Garret Corcoran, president of the Harlem Valley Chamber of Commerce. "Small businesses are the backbone of our community, and in order to support them, we have to understand the services they offer. "

Approximately 40 businesses will be participating in this year's event, including the Bank of Millbrook and Freshtown, which will also be hosting the "Crafts for Kids" event.

"We're looking forward to seeing everyone having fun with the children with our birdhouses and flower pots," said Therese Stanford, mortgage consultant with the Bank of Millbrook, who has also helped spearhead the organization of the event. "We hope plenty of families turn out for this wonderful day. "

Also on site will be Salisbury Bank & Trust Company, Dutchess Country Realty, Portasoft Water Conditioning, Taylor Oil & Propane, Arnoff Moving and Storage, and many other businesses serving the community.

Local restaurants and local not-for-profit groups will provide food; Boar's Head Deli products will be available to sample, Hudson Valley Fresh Milk will be promoting local milk, and Mountain Fresh Smoked Goods will also be providing a literal taste of their business.

There will also be giveaways and raffles for grocery and restaurant gift certificates, spa treatments, store vouchers and gift baskets.

Representatives from State Sen. Vincent Leibell's office will be on site, as will Amenia Town Supervisor Wayne Euvrard.

Silo Ridge will also have a booth for interested area residents to look over plans and documents relating to the proposed community development, which could include 359 single-family, townhouse and condominium residences, as well as a 300-unit condominium-style hotel.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is free to all attendees.

Everyone from seniors to children, weekenders to full-time residents are asked to consider themselves invited to explore what the Harlem Valley has to offer.

"This expo is a great opportunity for business owners to meet one another and to meet new customers and see old faces," said Corcoran.

"We're really looking forward to this expo," said Jeanne Rebillard, who contributed to organizing the event. "It's a great way to launch everyone into the summer season. "
